Family of FedEx shooting suspect says they ‘tried to get him the help he needed’

The family of a 19-year-old man suspected in the shooting at a Fedex facility in Indianapolis, Ind., apologized to the victims’ families, stating that they tried to give the man the help that he needed. 

Brandon Scott Hole, allegedly opened fire on a Fedex facility on Thursday, killing eight people. 

Hole’s issued a statement obtained by The IndyStar. 

The family said it was “sorry for the pain and hurt being felt” by the victim’s families. It also noted that the family tried to get him help.

“We are devastated at the loss of life caused as a result of Brandon’s actions; through the love of his family, we tried to get him the help he needed,” the statement said, according to the newspaper.

“Our sincerest and most heartfelt apologies go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy. We are so sorry for the pain and hurt being felt by their families and the entire Indianapolis community,” it continued.

Hole, who is a former FedEx employee, was identified as the suspect of the shooting Friday afternoon. He killed himself after the shooting, and just before police entered the building.

Hole is accused of killing 32-year-old Matthew Alexander, 19-year-old Samaria Blackwell, 66-year-old Amarjeet Johal, 64-year-old Jaswinder Kaur, 68-year-old Jaswinder Singh, 48-year-old Amarjit Sekhon, 19-year-old Karlie Smith and 74-year-old John Weisert.

The Sikh Coalition confirmed that four members of its community were killed, and have called for police to investigate if racial bias played a role in the attack.

The FBI’s Indianapolis Field Office confirmed that Hole’s mother warned authorities in March 2020 that her son might try to commit “suicide by cop.”

The shootings came one month after a shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colo., left ten people dead, and a shooting spree at three Atlanta-are spas left eight dead, including six Asian women.

President Biden has condemned the latest attacks, and reiterated his calls to Congress to pass gun safety legislation.
