Videos capture the moment George Floyd’s family members heard Derek Chauvin guilty verdict

Videos posted on social media showed the moment George Floyd’s family heard that a Minnesota jury had convicted former police officer Derek Chauvin on all charges in Floyd’s murder.

Floyd’s family is seen in a video with the legal team representing them as they watched Judge Peter Cahill read the verdict. The family all jumped up and rushed to the television upon Chauvin’s conviction.

As Cahill read the verdict given to him by the jury, another group of Floyd’s family members can be seen in a video waiting with their heads bowed. As each of the three verdicts were read, the family members shouted out in joy.

Once the final verdict was read, they could no longer contain their elation, with one young woman shouting, “Yes! This is what we wanted!”

Ben Crump, the attorney representing Floyd’s family, shared a video on Twitter of President Biden and Vice President Harris calling them soon after the verdict.

When one member asks Biden how he was doing, the president replied, “Feeling better now. Nothing is gonna make it all better, but at least now there’s some justice,”

“You’ve been incredible. You’re an incredible family,” Biden added.

“I’m just so thankful to the entire family. Your courage, your commitment, your strength,” Harris can be heard saying on the phone call. “This is a day of justice in America.”

After the verdict was read, Chauvin was remanded to custody and bail was revoked. He was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.
