New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said Thursday that he’s “eager” to talk to state Attorney General Letitia James (D) in her investigation into sexual misconduct claims against him but has not yet been interviewed as part of the investigation.
When asked at a Buffalo press conference if he’d been interviewed, Cuomo replied, “I have not.”
“But I can tell you this, I have tried to be respectful of the process. At the same time, it has been very difficult letting people make accusations and not responding, and people have only heard one side of the story. I used to tell people when I was attorney general … when someone came in and said ‘well, I heard this,’ I said, ‘until you hear both sides of the story, you haven’t heard anything,’ ” he said. “People have heard one side of the story. I can’t tell you how eager I am to tell my side of the story and the time will come.”
James opened up her investigation into Cuomo after several women including former and current aides alleged he groped and sexually harassed them. The state Assembly is also conducting an impeachment investigation into Cuomo over the allegations.
Cuomo has admitted that he has hugged people and kissed them as a form of greeting, though has denied any wrongdoing.
The controversy has led to a flood of Republicans and Democrats calling for Cuomo’s resignation, though the three-term governor has maintained he intends to stay in office.
While Cuomo has mostly issued broad denials over the claims against him, he hinted he would get more specific when he is interviewed by James.
“Here what has happened is the complainants have continued to go to the press and make their complaint in the press, and I have not been able to respond. That’s not fair and it’s not right. So I’m trying to be respectful, but I’m very eager to tell my side of the story,” he said.
