Talladega to let people drive on track if they get vaccinated or tested

The Talladega Superspeedway will allow people a chance to drive on its famous track if they are willing to take a COVID-19 vaccine or be tested for the disease.

ABC affiliate WBMA reported that drivers and passengers will be able to take two laps around the race track behind a pace car at a Saturday event if they get vaccinated or tested first.

COVID-19 testing and vaccination will be available by drive-thru from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday with members of the Alabama National Guard administering vaccines to recipients. Registration is not required and walk-ins are being welcomed.

The Hill has reached out to Alabama National Guard, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Talladega Superspeedway for comment. 

To drive on the speedway, drivers must be at least 19 years old and are required to have a valid driver’s license, a car registration in their name and vehicle insurance.

Parents/guardians will be required for participants who are 16 to 18 years who have to sign a minor release form and have a valid driver license as well. 

All participants must sign a consent waiver to participate in driving through the laps, according to ABC affiliate. 

The event is sponsored by the Alabama National Guard, HHS and the CDC Foundation and the Alabama Department of Public Health.
