Free crawfish offered with vaccines at event in New Orleans

The New Orleans City Council is promoting free crawfish for people who get vaccine shots Thursday.

NOLA.com reported on Monday that the promotion is in a partnership with local business incubator Propeller, City Councilman Jay Banks (D), the city health department and local seafood market Cajun Seafood. Propeller will host the event.

Health care workers will administer the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine options at the event and offer a free pound of boiled crawfish to those who get shots. The first 30 people in line will get a free gift card, according to the newspaper. 

The crawfish boil comes as other state governments are creating new incentives to get people vaccinated. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) announced last week that the state will buy residents a pint of beer if they show proof they have been vaccinated.

Forty-three percent of New Orleans residents have received one dose of the vaccine, compared to 32 percent of the state, according to NOLA.com.
