Two facing charges after fight at packed North Carolina gas station

Two people were arrested and charged with assault on Tuesday after they allegedly engaged in a fight at a packed North Carolina gas station.

Several states in the Southeast are facing major gasoline shortages and long lines at the pump following this week’s Colonial Pipeline shutdown due to a cyberattack.

Authorities told The Associated Press that they were called to a Knightdale, N.C., Marathon gas station following a report of a crash and disturbance. The two were allegedly fighting over a space in the long line for gas.

In a video of the incident posted to Instagram, a man and a woman — identified by local station WRAL as Matthew James-Stark Artero, 47, and Alexus Orianna Harris, 25 — are seen arguing over the spot in line. Each one spits in the other’s face before the argument turns physical.

The altercation reportedly resulted in Harris’s cellphone being damaged.

Artero was charged with assault on a female and damage to personal property, while Harris was charged with simple assault, according to police.

Both now have pending court dates.
