Trump teases endorsement in Texas AG race

Former President Trump on Tuesday said he would soon announce his endorsement in the Texas attorney general race.

The GOP primary will likely come down to Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, who has not formally announced his run for the position, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

I like them both very much. I’ll be making my endorsement and recommendation to the great people of Texas in the not-so-distant future,” Trump said in a statement shared with The Hill.

Trump’s statement about announcing an endorsement for the race comes one day after Bush tweeted about a conversation he had with Trump about Texas.

Great to speak with President Trump to discuss the future of Texas and how we are keeping up the fight to put America first. I appreciate the words of encouragement and support. Big things coming soon!” Bush tweeted Monday.

Although Bush has not formally announced a run for the attorney general’s office, he said in April that he was “seriously considering” running against Paxton in 2022.

The son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) also recently said he would support Trump if he decided to run for president again in 2024.

Paxton was at Mar-a-Lago in February playing golf with the former president and spoke at Trump’s rally on Jan. 6 before the Capitol riot.

It is unclear when Trump will announce his endorsement.
