New York hits 70 percent vaccination goal, lifts COVID-19 restrictions

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) has announced the state has reached its goal of vaccinating 70 percent of adults, and will lift COVID-19 restrictions.

Cuomo in a post on Twitter said said this meant “we can return to life as we know it” more than a year after the state locked down.

New York was the epicenter of the U.S. coronavirus outbreak in the spring of 2020.

New York has seen vaccinations tick up even as the pace of vaccinations across the country has slowed. President Biden had hoped to have 70 percent of adults vaccinated by July 4, but it appears that goal will be missed.

New York is planning to honor front-line workers with a fireworks display on Tuesday.
