Connecticut to no longer report state’s daily COVID-19 death count

Connecticut will no longer report the state’s daily coronavirus death toll.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont’s (D) office said in a COVID-19 update on Wednesday that the number of coronavirus-related deaths will be provided by the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Thursdays. 

According to CT Post, officials have said the daily death toll was a lagging indicator because deaths could be reported weeks after someone became infected.

New deaths were added on a daily basis throughout the week, though the state did not publish numbers on Saturday and Sundays, the news outlet reported.

As of Wednesday, Connecticut has reported 349,743 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, up 92 cases from Tuesday, Lamont’s office said. The state currently has a daily positivity rate of 0.89 percent.

The state has also reported 8,278 COVID-19 associated deaths. Thirty-two patients are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

According to the Hartford Courant, 67.4 percent of all Connecticut residents have received at least one vaccine dose, and 61.1 percent of all residents have been fully vaccinated.
