Five members of a Texas family were arrested Tuesday in connection to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the largest family group apprehended following the deadly insurrection.
The five family members — Thomas and Dawn Munn, and three of their children, Kristi, Joshua and Kayli, were all apprehended Tuesday and charged with illegally entering the Capitol and engaging in disorderly conduct among others.
Each has been charged with four misdemeanor counts, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Munn family traveled together from Borger, Texas, to Washington, D.C., to participate in the “Stop the Steal” rally that occurred before a group of former President Trump’s supporters breached Capitol security.
They gained access to the Capitol on Jan. 6 by climbing through a window that had been damaged.
Court documents revealed that a relative of the fiancé of Kristi Munn had tipped off authorities about the family’s involvement, and had sent screenshots of her social media posts to law enforcement, according to NBC News.
Following the insurrection, Kristi Munn reportedly wrote on Facebook that she had been active in the riot.
“Just keep that bit of info on the DL [down low] for now,” she wrote in the post.
In another, Kristi wrote that “Tear gas tastes like freedom,” according to The Washington Post. When asked by a commenter if she knew that from experience, she wrote, “I do now.”
One other member of the family was involved, however they are a minor and were therefore not apprehended.
