Two Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers have been charged in the alleged beating of a teenager, the Chicago Tribune reported.
A Cook County state’s attorney’s spokesperson said that CPD officers Jeffery Shafer and Victor Guebara were charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct for allegedly beating a teen in January.
According to the police report, the officers responded to a call about a stolen 2012 Chevrolet on the neighboring blocks of Marquette Road and Cottage Grove on Jan. 10.
When police arrived, the suspect began driving the stolen vehicle around the squad car before crashing it into the passenger side of the police car, according to the Tribune. The suspect then pointed a gun at the officers.
The suspect, 17, was charged with aggravated assault, illegally possessing a handgun, resisting a police officer and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.
The teen was also charged with carrying an illegal weapon in June 2020, the Tribune reported.
According to Civilian Office of Police Accountability records obtained by the Tribune, one of the two officers struck the teen in the head or face, and then pushed his head into a metal fence and sidewalk.
Shafer and Gubara are scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday, the Tribune noted.
