Teen arrested for shooting at football game that wounded five

Police said a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection to a shooting at a football game that wounded five people in Mobile, Alabama, The Associated Press reported.

The Mobile Police Department (MPD) said that Jai Scott of Seems, Ala., was charged Saturday with five counts of attempted murder. 

Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told reporters that the shooting occurred near the exit ramp at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, where Vigor and Williamson high schools were facing off, according to the AP. 

MPD also released a blurry photograph of three people at the game on its Facebook page Saturday morning, calling them persons of interest. 

Gwendolyn Crawford told NBC News affiliate WPMI that her son, Jakobe Morgan, was shot five times in the incident, suffering injuries to his spine and kidney. 

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the shooting highlighted a worrying trend of violence in the city. 

“The continuing trend of violence in our community, especially among young people, must stop,” Stimpson said in a statement. “I am confident MPD will track down those responsible for last night’s shooting and hold them accountable for their unnecessary and senseless actions.”

Authorities haven’t announced a motive for the shooting, the AP noted.
