Authorities on Wednesday confirmed a fourth student has died due to injuries he sustained in a shooting at a Michigan high school.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that a 17-year-old student died due to their injuries in the shooting at Oxford High School.
“We are saddened to announce a fourth victim has died as a result of their injuries. Justin Shilling, a 17-year-old student of Oxford High School has passed,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
Three other students — Tate Myre, Hana St. Juliana and Madisyn Baldwin — were also killed in the shooting. Several other people were injured as a result of the incident, and many of those who sustained wounds are in critical condition.
One teacher who was injured has since been discharged.
Authorities were able to apprehend the suspected shooter, a 15-year-old sophomore at Oxford High School. The suspect is a minor; therefore, his name has not been disclosed. He is currently being held in a county juvenile detention facility and has not yet been charged with a crime.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said on Tuesday evening that the shooter used a gun — a 9mm Sig Sauer SP2022 pistol — that his father bought on Black Friday.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Bouchard said he believes that the suspect fired at least 12 rounds. Earlier on Tuesday, Undersheriff Mike McCabe suggested the suspect had fired 15 to 20 rounds, indicating that he reloaded the gun at least once.
