Graham: ‘We should all want to help’ Trump

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday said he’s come around to President Trump since the 2016 campaign, when the senator labeled Trump a “kook” and “unfit for office.”

“Well, the American people spoke. They rejected my analysis, and he is now my president,” Graham said on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”

“The bottom line: He is president of the United States,” Graham added. “I’ve gotten to know him better. He asks a lot of good questions.”

{mosads}Graham praised Trump’s foreign policy decisions, noting the president’s decision to arm Ukraine as it fights pro-Russian separatists and his policies toward North Korea. 

Graham on Sunday said he approved of Trump’s support for Iranian protesters, but said the president “can’t just tweet” and must lay out a plan for dealing with Iran.

“I want to help him where I can because there’s a lot on this man’s plate and we should all want to help him,” Graham said.

During the 2016 campaign, Graham called Trump “a kook,” “crazy,” and “unfit for office.” He backed Jeb Bush during the Republican primary, and said he ultimately cast his vote for independent Evan McMullin. 

Since Trump took office, Graham has been occasionally critical of the president, but recently spent a weekend golfing at Trump’s course in West Palm Beach, Fla. Graham later tweeted praise for the golf course, and called it a “great day of fun.”
