Sam Nunberg, a former campaign aide to President Trump, criticized the president’s ex-longtime lawyer Michael Cohen on Sunday for recording private conversations with Trump.

Nunberg said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it was common knowledge among Trump’s associates that Cohen recorded phone calls.

But, he said, Cohen’s recording of a private conversation in which the two men discussed potentially buying the rights to a former Playboy model’s account of a claimed affair with Trump is “highly suspect.”

“I thought he was taping all phone conversations … but to tape people when you’re sitting in the office with them, that would be highly suspect,” Nunberg said.

Nunberg said the taped conversation, aired last week by CNN, sounded “like the conversations you would hear in private” in Trump Tower.

He also conceded that such matters were under Cohen’s “purview.”

The recording released by CNN features Cohen speaking with Trump about purchasing the rights to the story of Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who alleges she had an affair with Trump years ago.

The conversation also touched on efforts to stop documents pertaining to Trump’s divorce from his first wife from being unsealed.

Trump and his attorneys have said that the recordings had been cut down to make it seem as if the president acted improperly.
