Graham: DOJ official was ‘unethical’ in investigating Trump campaign because his wife worked for Fusion GPS

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday called for a special counsel to investigate the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI and said a DOJ official whose wife worked for Fusion GPS “should not have had any role in investigating the Trump campaign.”

Graham said on “FOX News Sunday” that DOJ official Bruce Ohr was “at least unethical” because his wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 election — the firm that hired former British spy Christopher Steele to compile the controversial “Steele dossier.”

“Mr. Ohr should not have had any role in investigating the Trump campaign,” Graham said. “We need a special counsel to look at all things Department of Justice and FBI when it came to the Trump investigation.”

The FBI opened its investigation into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia in July 2016.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is preparing subpoenas for Bruce Ohr, Nellie Ohr and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, The Hill reported last week.

Bruce Ohr sparked Republican criticism for his contacts with Simpson and Steele during the presidential campaign. Simpson hired Steele to compile the dossier that made a number of salacious claims about Trump’s ties to Russia. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign funded some of the research in the dossier, something the GOP has seized on as a major flashpoint.

Nellie Ohr worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 election, which Republicans have pointed to as evidence of a link between the firm and the DOJ.
