Several of the 2020 Democratic primary contenders will hit the Sunday news show circuit this week following a contentious third debate this week in Houston.
Several on-stage clashes between the candidates will likely dominate the focus of the news shows, including one clash between former Vice President Joe Biden and former Housing Secretary Julián Castro, during which Castro questioned whether Biden remembered comments he had made about his health care plan minutes earlier.
{mosads}South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D), who rebuked Castro for the exchange, will appear on both ABC’s “This Week” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” During Thursday’s event, Buttigieg slammed both candidates after the back-and-forth on health care, claiming it was why more voters do not watch debates.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), who also sparred on the issue of health care with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), will appear on ABC as well. Klobuchar knocked Sanders’ promise to eliminate private insurance in favor of universal government-funded health care coverage as unfeasible, telling Sanders “I don’t think it’s a bold idea. I think it’s a bad idea.”
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” are two other candidates, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.).
O’Rourke made headlines during the debate after declaring that his administration would institute a mandatory federal buyback of all assault weapons, a position he announced after a shooting last month in El Paso, Texas.
