President Biden and former President Trump agreed to take the debate stage later this year. as the two prepare for a rematch in November. As the 2024 election inches closer, the decision to go one-on-one will likely be a focus of this week’s Sunday shows circuit.
Biden requested two debates earlier this week and Trump was quick to accept the offer. The first, on June 27, will be hosted by CNN, and the second will be hosted by ABC News on Sep. 10.
“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again,” Biden said in a video posted on social media platform X Wednesday. “Well, make my day, pal.”
Trump, who has been calling for debates with the president for months, agreed to the challenge. He claimed in his response that the last forum he had with Biden was “the WORST debate I have ever faced.”
“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue, although Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds — That’s only because he doesn’t get them.”
He added, “Just tell me when, I’ll be there. “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!”
State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Pa.), who serves as the Biden campaign’s advisory board chair, will make an appearance on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday.” Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary, will join Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures. The two are likely to comment on the upcoming debates.
Some possible contenders for Trump’s running mate made their way to New York City this week for the former president’s hush money trial, including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.) and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio). Vance will make an appearance on this week’s “Face the Nation” on CBS, and Burgum will make an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”
A House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing went sideways Thursday following comments from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (D-Pa.) on the appearance of a committee colleague. The hearing was focused on holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress following him not handing over the audio of Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.
However, when Greene was questioning if Democrats on the panel employed the daughter of the judge overseeing Trump’s New York hush money case, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) chimed in, pushing back against the relevance of Greene’s words.
“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene said to Crockett, who will appear CNN’s “State of the Union” this weekend. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
From there, chaos erupted as Democrats expressed their indignation with Greene’s behavior, and Greene kept pushing back.
At one point, Crockett questioned if “someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond bad built butch body” would break Congressional protocol. Her question seemed to be a swing at Greene, and she also questioned the Georgia Republican’s racial undertones with her rhetoric.
