Navarro: Americans will choose ‘tough guy’ for president because world is dangerous place

White House trade advisor Peter Navarro predicted Sunday that voters would choose President Trump over former Vice President Joe Biden (D) in November due to their desire for a leader with a “tough guy” persona who could handle global threats.

In an interview with “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News, Navarro pointed to the issue of U.S.-China relations as one area he believed Trump would have an edge over Biden with voters in the fall after being asked by Maria Bartiromo about reports that China’s government is actively opposed to Trump’s reelection.

“What are your expectations for this upcoming [Republican National Convention] (RNC)?” Bartiromo asked, “And why do you believe that China wants Joe Biden in the White House?”

{mosads}”Maria, this whole election is setting up, both in China and with the DNC, as a battle between a nice guy and a tough guy. And we like that matchup, because I think the people of America will always choose a tough guy in the White House over a nice guy, because they know the world’s a dangerous place,” Navarro responded.

Navarro then pushed back against the idea that Biden was an empathetic politician, blaming him for jobs lost from shuttered U.S. factories as a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), for which Biden voted for when he was a senator.

“[L]et me ask you a couple of questions here,” Navarro went on to say. “Does a nice guy vote for NAFTA and ship millions of jobs off to Mexico and spawn millions more illegal immigrants coming north? No. But Joe Biden did.”

“Does a nice guy let China into the World Trade Organization and have tens of thousands of factories across the Midwest go to China?” he added.

Biden’s campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

The Trump campaign has sought to tie Biden to China’s government for months even amid claims from U.S. intelligence that Russian agents were working once again to boost Trump’s chances of victory and sway voters in his favor ahead of November’s election.

U.S. intelligence sources have also pointed to China and Iran as top countries involved in efforts to sway U.S. voters on various political issues. China and Iran are said to oppose Trump’s reelection due to perceptions that his administration would continue a campaign of pressure and sanctions against their respective governments.
