Klobuchar: ‘We are not safe in Donald Trump’s America’
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Sunday that people are “not safe in Donald Trump’s America,” citing the recent police violence against Black people, demonstrations and the coronavirus pandemic.
“This isn’t just happening in one place,” the former 2020 presidential candidate noted on ABC’s “This Week.” “It’s happening all over the country. It is happening under Donald Trump’s watch.”
“We are not safe in Donald Trump’s America,” she added. “Not only have we seen an increase in hate crimes, not only have we seen increases in crime, but we have seen 3,600 people die during the Republican Convention, Jonathan. Now over 180,000 people that died from this coronavirus.”
“I have long condemned looting, violence, threats,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar tells @jonkarl when asked about Trump supporters confronted, intimidated by protesters.

Klobuchar also knocked the warnings at the Republican National Convention that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden would cause the U.S. to be less safe.
“So, no, we are not more safe,” she said. “And I think Joe Biden has a very strong case to make about the changes he will make to make this country more safer.”
The Minnesota senator also responded to the president’s condemnation of how his supporters were treated by protesters, whom he called “a bunch of thugs,” outside of the White House after his nomination acceptance speech.
{mosads}“I have long condemned looting, violence, threats,” she said. “That’s not peaceful protests. And I don’t care who’s engaging in it, you condemn it. And, of course, Joe Biden has clearly condemned it.”
Klobuchar’s remarks come as protests over police brutality have erupted in Kenosha, Wis. and continued in Portland, Ore. and Minneapolis, leading to some fatal shootings.
Demonstrations in Kenosha were sparked after video last week showed police shooting Jacob Blake at least seven times in the back as he opened a door of his SUV.
