President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s 2020 election victory is expected to dominate the Sunday show circuit this weekend.
Biden won the presidential election on Saturday shortly after multiple news networks reported that he had defeated President Trump in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, a victory that brought him to 270 Electoral College votes.
Multiple news outlets, including CNN, ABC and the Associated Press called the race just before 11:30 a.m., while Fox News followed suit shortly after.
During the Democratic primary, it was not apparent that Biden would be the Democratic nominee. Biden did not fare well in the first races of the primary, garnering very little support in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada. However, the president-elect picked up steam with a resounding win South Carolina, where Black voters came out to support him in overwhelming numbers.
Biden was also buoyed in the state after an endorsement from House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.). Clyburn will appear on NBC’s “Meet The Press” and CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Following the Biden-Harris victory, some Republican lawmakers, including Utah Senator Mitt Romney released statements congratulating the two.
“Ann and I extend our congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. We know both of them as people of good will and admirable character. We pray that God may bless them in the days and years ahead,” Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee who ran against former President Barack Obama tweeted, referring to his wife.
Romney will make the rounds on Sunday shows this weekend, as he is slated to appear on NBC’s “Meet The Press”, CBS’s “Face The Nation”, Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” and CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Trump on Saturday refused to concede, and promised mounting legal challenges ahead to contest the results.
Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal attorney, claimed to have between 50 and 60 poll watchers in Pennsylvania who would testify that they were “uniformly deprived of their right to inspect any single part of the mail-in ballot.”
Giuliani will appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who will also appear on “Sunday Morning Futures,” said that he would investigate “all credible allegations of voting irregularities and misconduct” after receiving a sworn affidavit from a Pennsylvania postal worker alleging officials devised a plan to backdate mail ballots.
Votes are still being counted in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, but Biden is leading in all four states.
Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams received praise Friday for turning out the vote in the Peach state where Biden currently leads by over 7,000 votes. The state has broken reliably for Republicans in presidential elections for years. The last Democrat to win the state was former President Bill Clinton in 1992.
Abrams will make an appearance on CNN’s “Face The Nation” on Sunday.
Multiple news outlets projected he would win Nevada after he was projected to win the presidency.
Votes are also being counted in North Carolina and Alaska, where the president is currently leading.
