A record percentage of Americans in a new survey says immigration is positive for the country.
According to the Gallup poll, published Thursday, 75 percent said immigration is good for the nation, while 19 percent said it is bad.
{mosads}Gallup noted that the percentage of Americans who said immigration is positive rose 4 points from 2017.
Results of the survey come amid a tense debate on immigration policy, as the Trump administration deals with the fallout from its “zero tolerance” policy at the southern border and the separation of undocumented children from their families.
President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order that will allow families to remain together.
The Trump administration in April unveiled the policy, which instructed the Justice Department to prioritize the criminal prosecution of individuals trying to unlawfully cross the U.S.–Mexico border.
The House, which has for weeks been engaged in an immigration debate, is slated to take up two pieces of immigration legislation Thursday.
The new Gallup phone survey of 1,520 individuals was conducted from June 1 through 13. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
