Migrant children moved after reports of poor conditions at remote facility: report

The Trump administration has moved migrant children from a remote detention camp near El Paso, Texas, after reports of poor conditions, The Associated Press reported Monday.

Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) told the news service that 30 of more than 300 children remained at the facility.

It is unclear where the other children went, although Escobar told the AP that at least some were sent to another facility in El Paso.

{mosads}Attorneys said last week that children were being held without proper food, water or sanitation at the facility in Clint, Texas.

Some of the children in the facility were reportedly sickened with the flu, with some being held in medical quarantine, while others, including a 2-year-old boy, were reportedly only cared for by other children.

Customs and Border Protection, which operates the facility, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Clint facility.

The reported move comes as Democrats have sharpened their criticism of the administration’s treatment of migrants in recent days, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who last week made headlines when she accused the federal government of operating “concentration camps.”
