Fox News to air town hall on rising depression, suicides in law enforcement
Fox News will present a prime-time town hall on Sunday focusing on threats to law enforcement, according to a network announcement.
“Town Hall America with Harris Faulkner: Police Emergency” will air from Fox News headquarters in New York in front of a studio audience with those “connected to the police community,” per the release.
Faulkner is the host of “Outnumbered” and “Outnumbered Overtime” weekday afternoons.
{mosads}The network says the conversation will focus on “the impact of rhetoric in America” and “the suicide crisis among police officers.”
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has experienced a rash of suicides in the past year, with 10 officers taking their lives since January.
Commissioner James O’Neill recently stated that more officers have committed suicide in 2019 than in recent years, with the number more than doubling compared to the past several years.
The NYPD has experienced suicides annually for the last five years. O’Neill described the situation as a “mental health crisis.”
“It’s difficult for people to come forward, especially if you’re in crisis. I think that’s almost impossible,” O’Neill said. “The biggest issue is getting over that hurdle — getting over that hurdle of stigma.”
O’Neill has since declared a mental health emergency while underscoring the issue of untreated depression among law enforcement officers across the country.
Faulkner joined Fox News in 2005.
