Occupation: registered nurse
Education: graduate certificate, Lutheran School of Nursing
Family: two children

Cori Bush will make her debut in Washington next year after being featured in the Netflix documentary “Knock Down the House” in 2019.

The documentary featured four Democratic women running for House seats during the 2018 midterms. Only one of the women highlighted — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — was elected to Congress.

That year, Bush, an activist and pastor, lost to longtime Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.).

But this election cycle was different. Powered by a potent grassroots campaign, Bush upset Clay in the Democratic primary on Aug. 4, winning by just over 4,000 votes.

She has run on a progressive platform, supporting “Medicare For All,” criminal justice reform and a $15 federal minimum wage.

The 1st Congressional District that Bush won encompasses the entire city of St. Louis.
