Lt. Col. August Pfluger will be the next congressman from Texas’s 11th District, succeeding retiring Rep. Mike Conaway (R). It marks his first foray into elected politics and comes following a stint as a member of President Trump’s National Security Council.
A 20-year veteran of the Air Force and member of the Air Force Reserve, Pfluger flew combat missions against militants associated with the Islamic State based out of a U.S. base in the United Arab Emirates. He was elected to Congress in a safely Republican district with the support of high-profile GOP figures during the primary including Rep. Dan Crenshaw (Texas), Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.), as well as the president.
Outside of his political life, Pfluger has joined his family, who are seventh-generation Texans, in the ranching business and also founded a company working to expand oil and gas pipeline infrastructure in the state.
