GOP Miami mayor calls on Trump to talk climate change

Republican Miami mayor Tomás Regalado called on President Trump to discuss climate change as Hurricane Irma approached his city.

“If this isn’t climate change, I don’t know what is,” Regalado said Friday, according to HuffPost.

“This is the time to talk about climate change. This is the time that the president and the [Environmental Protection Agency] and whoever makes decision needs to talk about climate change,” Regalado said. “This is a truly, truly poster child for what is to come.”

{mosads}“I don’t want to be political, but the fact of the matter is that this is a lesson that we need protection from nature. So, I think this is a lesson for the people to say you know what? We have to be prepared.”

EPA administrator Scott Pruitt told CNN last week that it would be “insensitive” to discuss climate change as massive hurricanes hit the U.S.

“To have any kind of focus on the cause and effect of the storm, versus helping people, or actually facing the effect of the storm, is misplaced,” he said.

Hurricane Irma, a Category 3 storm, is set to hit Florida early Sunday. Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of Texas and Louisiana late last month.
