The 80th anniversary of D-Day:

World leaders gathered in Normandy, France, today to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
President Biden marked the anniversary with a ceremony this morning in Normandy where he invoked Ukraine’s fight against “a tyrant.”
In Biden’s words: “Here in Europe we see one stark example: Ukraine has been invaded by a tyrant bent on domination. Ukrainians are fighting with extraordinary courage, suffering great losses, but never backing down.”
^ This is the quote getting traction from the remarks.
Another quote from Biden: “The price of unchecked tyranny is the blood of the young and the brave. In their generation, in their hour of trial, the allied forces of D-Day did their duty. Now the question for us is, in our hour of trial, will we do ours?”
The Hill’s Alex Gangitano and Brett Samuels noted this was an “[appeal] to Americans to remember the value of international alliances at a precarious moment in world affairs.” 📹 Watch Biden’s remarks

It’s a world leaders’ who’s who: |
France is the epicenter of the globe today with world leaders and veterans gathering in Normandy to mark the anniversary of D-Day.
Because they’re all together: Leaders have scheduled side meetings around the ceremonies. Biden will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today and French President Emmanuel Macron later this week. Normandy is the new Capitol Hill for the day: Roughly 50 House lawmakers and 18 senators are in France today.

A federal judge just ordered Steve Bannon, a former adviser to former President Trump, to begin his four-month prison sentence on July 1.
Keep in mind: Bannon is still appealing his contempt of Congress conviction.
Backstory: “In 2022, Bannon was found guilty of failing to appear for a deposition ordered by the now-disbanded House Jan. 6 committee and refusing to turn over documents they subpoenaed.”
