It’s Monday. Happy Democratic National Convention week!!

Chicago is buzzing today. Democrats from all over the country are flocking to the city to officially nominate Vice President Harris as their presidential nominee.

Keep in mind^: Harris has already been formally nominated, so this process at the convention is purely ceremonial.

If this were held a month ago now, it would have been all about President Biden. He would have been the final speaker on the final night with his name plastered everywhere. But a lot has changed in the past few weeks — and now the incumbent president will instead speak on Night 1 of 4, giving his formal goodbye.

Who else is speaking today?: First lady Jill Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will speak.

The youngest delegate: A 17-year-old from Minnesota who will turn 18 three days before the election, according to West Central Tribune.

👀 Ooh drama: Democrats projected anti-Trump messages onto Trump Tower in Chicago.

📹 ‘Project 2025’: “Project 2025 HQ” was projected onto Trump Tower. Keep in mind that Trump has tried to distance himself from the conservative Project 2025 and some of its controversial policies.

📸 ‘Harris-Walz’: “Harris-Walz: Joy and Hope” was then projected onto the building.

📸 ‘Weird as hell’: “Trump-Vance ‘weird as hell’” was also projected.

Celebrity hosts: Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Ana Navarro and Mindy Kaling will each host a night of the convention, reports CNN’s Elizabeth Wagmeister.

Sorry, Bill: Semafor’s Max Tani reports that former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio missed his flight to Chicago. “I ended up getting his seat,” Tani said. 

💾 Throwback: C-SPAN’s Howard Mortman 📹 posted a video of a demonstration of the internet at the 1996 Democratic National Convention. It’s wild to think this was less than 30 years ago.

Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to be in Chicago to voice their anger over the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war. The protests threaten to overshadow Democrats’ celebration week.

The Hill’s Caroline Vakil pointed out that protesters have recently begun to target Harris, interrupting her at multiple rallies.

History repeats itself: “The large number of demonstrators anticipated in the city has already evoked comparisons to the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which was also held in Chicago and saw large numbers of protesters clash with police.”

Vice President Harris has shifted national polling in her direction since she replaced President Biden on top of the ticket. A new CBS News/YouGov survey even shows Harris with a 3-point lead nationally over former President Trump.

By any measure, she is winning the momentum game. But you know the infamous advice that any campaign operative will tell you: The worst thing a campaign can do is to believe it is winning. *cough 2016 cough*

Harris seems to understand this. She told reporters on Sunday that she considers her campaign the underdog of the election against Trump. “I very much consider us the underdog. We have a lot of work to do to earn the vote of the American people,” she said.

💡 Why this matters: This has become a very condensed campaign season. Harris is certainly riding the wave of enthusiasm from the newness of her campaign but still must translate that into battleground state votes.

Tidbit from a campaign stop: Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff shopped for snacks at a Sheetz gas station in Pennsylvania. Emhoff found Doritos for Harris. “This is my go-to. The original, nacho cheese,” Harris said.

Oh hey, Tim!: The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Julia Terruso posted that “Gov. Tim Walz just made a surprise appearance at the Pa. delegation breakfast. He talked about his recent swing through western Pa. and got some boos when he brought up Sheetz.”  📹 Watch the clip

House Republicans released their long-awaited impeachment inquiry report today on President Biden.

The gist: Republicans assert that Biden engaged in impeachable conduct around the business activities of his family, including his son Hunter Biden.

What’s specifically in the report?: “The report argues it is ‘inconceivable’ that Biden was ignorant of how his family members allegedly used their connection to the then-vice president to boost their business deals in Ukraine, China and elsewhere. The allegations rely heavily on bits of testimony that are disputed or undercut elsewhere.”

What Democrats are saying about the report: The White House says Biden did not engage in improper activity, and Democrats brush it off as a partisan attack.

💡 What happens next?: It’s likely the House will pursue impeachment against Biden. There are some skeptical Republicans, and the GOP majority is slim in the House. If impeachment articles ever made it to the Senate, they would be dead on arrival.
