More than a dozen Democratic lawmakers and candidates spoke at the Crypto4Harris town hall call, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).
They were joined by industry leaders including billionaire investor Mark Cuban and Sheila Warren, CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation.
“There’s great enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz ticket from every corner of our country,” Schumer said Wednesday. “You can feel it, you can see it, you can smell it. It’s gotten Democrats and Americans as a whole who are worried about the advent of Donald Trump so excited.”
“Why are we here today? Because we all support Vice President Kamala Harris to be our next president, and we all believe in the future of crypto,” said the Senate majority leader.
Schumer also announced his goal to pass crypto legislation by the end of the year.
The Biden administration has at times pushed back on the exploding crypto industry, especially Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler.
But the White House has made moves to mend fences with the industry, with several senior officials joining a call last week with about a dozen crypto leaders.
Crypto advocates have been hopeful that Harris may take a new approach to digital assets since President Biden dropped out of the race, especially since her campaign has engaged with the industry as it has gotten off the ground.
“Today’s conversation marks the beginning of a reset for the Harris campaign and more broadly a reset on U.S. leadership when it comes to digital assets and crypto,” said Dante Disparte, chief strategy officer and head of global policy at the crypto firm Circle.
