Protest vote overshadows Biden’s Michigan win
The president won big in Michigan, but an “uncommitted” vote stole much of the spotlight.
President Biden’s reelection campaign acknowledged that some “uncommitted” voters in the primary election could signal a weakness for Biden in a state he needs in November.
A protest campaign, which advocated for Michiganders to vote uncommittedbased on their opposition to Biden’s handling of Israel’s war in Gaza, led to an “uncommitted” vote of more than 13 percent in the state.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who is Palestinian, said she was one of the “uncommitted” votes, and “proud.”
“I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted. We must protect our democracy,” she said in a video statement. “We must make sure that our government is about us, about the people,” (The Hill)
Former President Trump came out on top on the GOP ticket, as expected, and continues his barrel toward the nomination for a rematch with Biden this November.
