Biden adopts broad rules for EV charger tax credit

The Biden administration is taking a broad approach to tax credits for electric vehicle (EV) chargers — interpreting the law so credits can apply to areas where most Americans live.

The White House said in a fact sheet that the tax credit guidance makes the credits available in parts of the country where about two-thirds of Americans live.

The Inflation Reduction Act makes the credits available in both low-income and non-urban areas.

The administration on Friday said it would use a broad definition of non-urban, ensuring that the incentive can apply to chargers in most parts of the U.S.
