Elon Musk’s praise for businessman Vivek Ramaswamy could hint that the owner of X, formerly called Twitter, is no longer all-in for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s 2024 bid, The Hill’s Nick Robertson noted.
Responding to a clip of Ramaswamy on Tucker Carlson’s online show, Musk said the 38-year-old Ohio businessman is a “very promising candidate.”
Musk has been a longtime backer of DeSantis, pledging his support months before the governor made his campaign official and teaming up with DeSantis when that announcement came in May.
DeSantis chose a Twitter Spaces event to announce his presidential candidacy, speaking alongside Musk despite technical difficulties that overshadowed the launch.
The stumble out of the gate from DeSantis set up what has been a difficult campaign. He has floundered in the limelight since officially joining a crowded 2024 field, with lower poll numbers now than when he began in late May.
Ramaswamy said at a NewsNation town hall earlier this week that “Trump was an excellent president” and suggested the former president could be one of his advisers if Ramaswamy wins the 2024 election.
Trump, for his part, said in May that he was “pleased” to see the businessman “doing so well” in polling.
