Webb: Lincoln versus Lincoln Project

How many of you have family members you can’t reason with? We all have opinions on a wide variety of issues, not all related to politics. Think about those members of your family and no matter what, one single issue defines all and there will never be agreement even where you do agree.

President Lincoln held the view and it was often said that he opposed slavery because it violated the republicanism principles of our Founding Fathers and the equality of all men promised in our Declaration of Independence.

Speaking on the Dred Scott decision, Lincoln stated, “I think the authors of that notable instrument intended to include all men, but they did not intend to declare all men equal in all respects. They did not mean to say all were equal in color, size, intellect, moral developments, or social capacity. They defined with tolerable distinctness, in what respects they did consider all men created equal—equal in ‘certain inalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’ This they said, and this meant. They did not mean to assert the obvious untruth, that all were then actually enjoying that equality, nor yet, that they were about to confer it immediately upon them. In fact they had no power to confer such a boon. They meant simply to declare the right, so that the enforcement of it might follow as fast as circumstances should permit.” This is an honest statement.

Since then the party has been a leader and often successful in helping America become a better nation. The Lincoln Project uses the moniker but not the principles. In fact, this fakery cooked up by elitists is making a mockery of many principles that are the foundation of the Republican Party.

George Conway is a never-Trumper who publicly attacked his wife and her boss. Examine that and ask, is this behavior any man should engage in especially where there are children in the marriage? For the record, I have known Kellyanne Conway a long time. She is an admirable person and a successful businesswoman. Being the first woman to run a successful presidential campaign, for a Republican candidate, earns her a political gold star.

Another Lincoln Project founder, Jennifer Horn was the New Hampshire GOP chair from 2013 to 2017 during a major election cycle. She left the state party January 2017 in extremely poor financial condition. While she was in office, she was divisive during the election cycle. She publicly attacked Republican candidates up and down the ballot including presidential primary contenders and candidate Trump. There are many other issues during her chairmanship I’m sure she would not want brought to light. Her judgment, failed leadership, past and current actions should not be trusted?

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a failed presidential candidate who competed against then-candidate Trump seeks to be a leading voice for Joe Biden and helps the Lincoln Project in Ohio. This is the same former House Budget chairman who once buried funding for border security. Losing in a primary race should not make you so bitter. Ask yourself, what could be the reasons for his visceral hatred? Could it be as many narcissistic politicians fear, irrelevance? Kasich is working to turn Ohio blue for Democrats. He is speaking at the DNC convention. Kasich has stabbed many supporters, including big money donors, in the back for years before Trump. I know some of these donors and some are my friends.

Our Republic as it stands, if it stands, has both beauty by design and inherent danger in our primary elections system. In the primaries, the bases of the respective parties make their choices known. I don’t want this to change even when what I consider to be bad choices are made.

As Republican voters, we are the party. We are diverse, despite what the Democrat narrative may be. Simply examine the country as a whole and the registered voters combined with the history of the Republican Party in policy success. We fought to preserve the union in our early days and to end slavery at the same time. Following the Civil War and during reconstruction, blacks were elected by Republican voters to Congress and other positions. The country still has a long way to go but our evolution towards a more perfect union would never be easy or immediate. It’s fair to argue that we still are not a perfect union, but that is the nature of evolving for the better.

We led the fight for women’s rights under Republican and conservative principles aligned with the Constitution of the United States and the promise of equality in the Declaration of Independence. We led the fight against segregation when the Democrats, KKK and racists under any banner fought to retain it. We did not just talk and debate. We marched and then voted in larger percentages than Democrats.

Beware the lie that somehow the Democrat and Republican parties have switched positions. Simple research will demonstrate otherwise and any willing can do it. Beware of Republican wolves in loyal Republican clothing. Republicans need to stop being elitist sheep and politically excommunicate turncoats who would rather have Biden and his “black woman of choice,” Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), as vice president (his words) in the White House. Color is obvious when it comes to being black. Color is not or ever should be a requirement over competency.

For the record, I deliberately do not wish to use the revised AP style guide that changes the word black to Black. It is virtue signaling and disingenuous. I am black. I will decide how I am titled.

Let’s say for the moment you’re a Republican who does not like President Trump’s style, tweets or otherwise. Go to the extreme, you hate Trump. This is not just about the presidency, the United States Senate or the House of Representatives. Our system of government at all levels is cleverly designed to allow for governing principles by the choice of the people to be tried and when successful should be kept and advanced.

Ask yourself a commonsense question.

If the Lincoln Project and the Democrats are successful, how much closer do they get you to your core Republican and constitutional principles? The Lincoln Project has targeted more than a half dozen Republicans up for reelection in 2020 and plans to target more in the remaining days to the election. What are their goals for Republican principles and governance if they help Democrats seize power?

This is a fight against radicalism and elitism willing to retake power at all costs versus America. You have a say now but if you don’t speak with the correct voice and let the elitists and the Democrats have their way, you will be the victims. History has proven this. Are you willing to repeat it?
