David Webb: Election 2014: 20 days to save the world

When there are no policies to run on, a President Obama to run away from, Democrats go on the attack. I find it interesting and a bit disturbing how easily the left runs successfully for election as centrists for the most part. Many of their policies are not acceptable for the average American. The mindset of so many Democrats is that they know what’s good for you (but it’s not necessary for them to abide by their rules). In an odd way I have more respect for an outright progressive than the political wolf in sheep’s clothing. We should all be concerned about the level of apathy and disconnect from the political system and knowledge — or lack of knowledge — of Americans who fall for this approach. 

Republicans are accused by Erica Payne, founder of The Agenda Project and the Tesseract Group, of being responsible for the spread of Ebola. This is the same organization that did the infamous “Paul Ryan throwing grandma off the cliff” ad in the last election cycle, and is reminiscent of Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) stating during the ObamaCare debate that Republicans want you to die quickly.  

{mosads}Let’s not forget Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who attempted to portray Republicans as women-beaters via her “back of his hand” campaign against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and other elected GOP officials a number of times. 

So why 20 days to save the world? It sounds like a movie title, but it’s for real. America’s domestic policy decisions and foreign policy decisions are connected and have always had a great effect on the world, which is the reality and responsibility of a superpower. War is not a necessary evil, it is often a necessary event for the common good of all. To this end, victory must be achieved, not negotiated, which merely delays the next war. 

We need to engage in three wars immediately.

The first is the war for the economy, not the faux economic council that Obama’s met with four times in two years. This war will be won when we unleash and exploit responsibly American resources — and not just those limited to energy. Energy must be easily redistributable and profitable; we need real reform for both corporate and individual taxes; and without a strong economy, we can’t afford the other necessary “wars.” 

The war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and radical Muslim groups by any name, is the second war we need to look to; this includes jihadists in America like Ali Muhammad Brown, who is charged with murdering Brendan Tevlin in Irvington, N.J., and Alton Nolen, who is alleged to have beheaded Colleen Hufford, a 54-year-old grandmother and co-worker in Moore, Okla. We are fighting an ideology that will not die until crushed brutally and the Muslim world has a true reformation. The same Democrats who use an air war effectively in politics are using an air war ineffectively in taking on ISIS. They are willing to win election while America and the world lose to a true global threat. 

The war against Ebola is the third war we can’t ignore. The Obama administration’s response to the deadly outbreak has merely been to detract from the global threat that is radical Islam and the crisis in the Middle East. We need a true war on Ebola. Contain it where it exists, and where it doubles approximately every two weeks. Do not put our troops at unnecessary risk in Liberia. If nurse Nina Pham, who treated Thomas Eric Duncan in Dallas, can be infected, how can Obama guarantee our troops’ safety? How will our troops be quarantined upon their return to protect the population? 

There is a common theme in how Obama — and Democrats in general — approach all three of these issues: with half-measures. The same applies to my fellow Republicans who take half-measures. History will remember your failures. Future generations will benefit from your victories. 

Leadership requires making decisions that are correct even if they are against a person’s core beliefs. If the Senate moves firmly into Republican hands after the midterm elections, Obama can be pressured by responsible elected officials to take the right actions even if he does not want a war, any war, on his ideological record. 

What will be the issue that gets you to vote in just 20 days for your own future, the future of your children, your grandchildren, and the future of the world?
