Webb: The shiny object

The “resistance” likes to tell you that it is working for your benefit. This is a collaboration mostly of the anti-American left. Its members are supported by the two wings of the Democratic Party: the Bill Clinton wing of the 1990s and the Barack Obama progressive wing that wants to control the future that are competing for the dwindling leftist base. 

In the public narrative and ongoing to obstruction, the left has been successful in slowing down some of the nation’s needed solutions under President Trump. Fair-minded observers would say that the Russian collusion assault story on Trump is mere political theater, but Chris Matthews commenting after the first round of testimony by James Comey that the story is unraveling cannot stop the Democratic obstruction train. 

{mosads}Even Glenn Kessler, The Washington Post fact-checker, agrees that the Democratic obstruction regarding the president’s nominees has created “record-setting long” delays. In simple numbers, 14 of Trump’s Cabinet nominees faced the cloture, vote compared with 11 for previous Presidents Obama and George W. Bush combined. This earned Trump the Geppetto Checkmark for claims that are correct. 

This anti-Trump, anti-right, anti-American wing cannot afford to have this story die because it doesn’t have another ready to use. It’s lost the American people’s support by the electoral numbers at state and federal levels. 

The Obama progressive coalition, which includes the Antifa, anti-capitalists, open borders supporters, globalists and every other leftist available has begun a dangerous turn to violent opposition. 

It shut down speakers, rioted in some cities on occasion and receives the tacit support of the leadership of the Democratic Party.

In a recent anti-Sharia march in Harrisburg, Pa., Lisa Simon, 23 years old and an Antifa demonstrator, attacked a police horse with a nail-tipped flagpole. She has been charged with aggravated assault, illegally taunting a police animal, prohibited offense of weapons, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction of administrative law. She was held on $100,000 bail. Even though passionate at times, this is not the peaceful political discourse that we normally have in the United States. 

Also, as we now know, a key point in the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions from the investigation into the Russian interference in our 2016 election regarding the Trump campaign is that he recused himself as a former principal adviser to then-candidate Trump and it would be against department rules for him to preside over the investigation. 

Further, supported by an email released last Thursday, we now know that Comey was not being truthful when he testified that he was not aware of any memo sent by the Justice Department to the FBI providing information on Sessions’s recusal. The email was sent by chief of staff Jody Hunt to then-acting Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente. Comey and others specifically informed them about recusal and its parameters. 

All this and so much more easily available information will not stem the hatred of the collaboration of the anti-American left for Trump and his administration. The “resistance” has not halted progress as much as it would like you to believe. 

While the country, including some of my friends on the right, focuses primarily on the big-ticket news items, progress continues at the White House, around the country and even in Congress. 

At the White House, the president’s agenda on infrastructure, education, healthcare and tax reform has begun to take shape. We have begun to see the development of a foreign policy doctrine of peace through strength and careful intervention that closely reflects his campaign rhetoric. 

Around the country, the community reforms under the Department of Housing and Urban Development led by Secretary Ben Carson in cities like Miami, Detroit and Dallas have begun in earnest.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos continues to put through reform that focuses on the needs of the students in place. 

As this week, which the administration is promoting as Workforce Development Week, plays out, the secretary of Labor is pursuing an aggressive agenda to address the growth of a labor force that can fill some 6 million job openings in America. There are some 3.5 million manufacturing jobs expected over the next decade, and if this is not reversed, 2 million may remain unfilled. Currently there are approximately 500,000 STEM jobs available in the United States, but our universities produce approximately 50,000 STEM graduates annually.

There will be some rough crossings for the Trump train, but we cannot let the efforts to rebuild our economy and fix the multiple issues facing us be derailed by the anti-crowd.
