Over the past four weeks, millions of people from all over the world have taken to the streets to protest. Their cause? Combating climate change with a strike.
From New York City to Paris, protesters blocked traffic — causing cars to idle — and created tons of additional trash through signs, banners and yes, single-use plastic cups.
{mosads}“Like the sea levels, we rise,” one sign, made with petroleum-based paint, stated.
“Rebel for life,” a giant plastic boat, painted yellow, read while blocking traffic in Washington, D.C.
“CAPITALISM IS KILLING THE PLANET,” a massive red banner stated.
“CLIMATE JUSTICE,” another plastic banner, this one in blue, said.
“BREAKING: We’re in Houston shutting down the largest oil export channel in the country to resist Trump & the oil industry for fueling this #ClimateCrisis. It’s time to end the age of oil. #PeopleVsOil,” a Greenpeace activist tweeted while wearing plastic rimmed glasses, a plastic hardhat and plastic reflective vest.
According to the standards of the protesters, all of these products used to condemn climate change actually contribute to the problem. Everyday products such as shoes, clothing, toothbrushes, light bulbs, hygiene or beauty products, toilets, cellphones, etc. are produced with petroleum products or a fossil fuel-based process.
Right on cue, the rowdy occasion brought out the usual suspects and by doing so, poured gasoline on a fire of already raging hypocrisy.
“Donald Trump being the face of global climate denial is actually motivating,” former Vice President Al Gore told CNN outside the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. “We have the tools we need to address this crisis.”
If President Trump is the face of climate change denial, then Al Gore is the face of climate change hypocrisy.
In 2006, with fearmongering in his voice, Gore predicted the world would be a “frying pan” by 2016. In 2019, that still isn’t the case.
Gore flies on private jets, is driven around in SUVs and lives in an excessive, oversized, energy consuming home. He’s also the same person who sold his television network, Current TV, to Al Jazeera for $500 million in 2012.
“Al and I are thrilled and proud to announce that a few moments ago Current was acquired by Al Jazeera, the award winning international news organization,” the network’s co-founder, Joel Hyatt, stated at the time. “When considering the several suitors who were interested in acquiring Current, it became clear to us that Al Jazeera was founded with the same goals we had for Current: To give voice to those whose voices are not typically heard; to speak truth to power; to provide independent and diverse points of view; and to tell the important stories that no one else is telling. Al Jazeera, like Current, believes that facts and truth lead to a better understanding of the world around us.”
Al Jazeera is owned by Qatar and the money used to purchase Gore’s network was made by selling oil to the rest of the world. According to Gore, fossil fuels are the leading cause of climate change, but he’s happy to profit off them even when there are other options.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., former President Obama hosted climate activist Greta Thunberg on behalf of the Obama Foundation.
“You and me, we’re a team,” Obama said during their meeting.
“Just 16, @GretaThunberg is already one of our planet’s greatest advocates. Recognizing that her generation will bear the brunt of climate change, she’s unafraid to push for real action,” he tweeted afterward.
But in August, news broke that the Obamas were in the final stages of purchasing a $14 million waterfront mansion in Martha’s Vineyard.
“The former Prez and First Lady have been renting the house this summer and loved it so much, we’ve learned they made an offer. The property is listed at $14,850,000. Our sources say they’re paying less, but we don’t know how much,” TMZ reported.
“The estate — incredible. It’s 29 beachfront acres. The main residence is just shy of 6,900 square feet. It has 7 bedrooms.”
If the former president is truly concerned about sea levels rising as a result of climate change, not to mention the energy consumption of the property, his latest real estate purchase places doubts on his sincerity.
Most Americans are already doing their part to reduce pollution and negative impacts on the environment. The people leading and participating in the climate change movement, however, have put their hypocrisy on full display while promoting their agenda of government control. Politicians like Gore and Obama aren’t helping to stop climate change, they’re actively contributing to it.
