Is a major file-sharing hub gone for good?

Major file-sharing hub The Pirate Bay might not be coming back anytime soon, following a Swedish police raid last week that shut down the site.

Administrators behind the site — a major repository for pirated movies, music, videogames and software — broke their silence Monday in a message to file sharing news site TorrentFreak.

{mosads}“Will we reboot? We don’t know yet. But if and when we do, it’ll be with a bang,” said one of the site’s moderators, going by the name “Mr 10100100000.”

The raid was not surprising, the administrator said. Law enforcement has repeatedly targeted The Pirate Bay since 2006. The site’s co-founders have all been arrested on various copyright infringement charges.

“We have however taken this opportunity to give ourselves a break,” said the moderator. “How long are we supposed to keep going? To what end? We were a bit curious to see how the public would react.”

Law enforcement officials worldwide have been boosting their efforts to shut down online sites facilitating cyber crime and imprison the people behind it.

Last month, a joint effort between American and European officials brought down hundreds of websites selling illegal good through a semi-anonymous online black market.
