The newly released Senate Republican budget fails to mention cybersecurity as a specific policy priority or line item, the same as the House GOP budget released Tuesday.
The Senate budget would balance in 10 years and cut spending by $5.1 trillion while providing $58 billion for an emergency war-fighting account at the Pentagon. House Republicans proposed $90 billion for the so-called overseas contingency operations fund in their document.
{mosads}Some of that fund could potentially be used for cyber defense, though neither the House nor Senate GOP raised this possibility.
The lack of mention of cyber in the Senate budget, released Wednesday, starkly contrasts with the White House’s focus on cyber defense in its fiscal proposal earlier this year.
The Obama administration would raise funding for cybersecurity by $5.5 billion at the Pentagon alone, for example.
