BlackBerry moves to protect BBM conversations

BlackBerry is introducing a new product to protect conversations that take place on its instant messaging program, regardless of device.

In a move sure to be welcomed by phone-addicted Washingtonians, the company will begin to provide an additional layer of security for messages on BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

{mosads}BlackBerry claims that the new software will protect against “man-in-the-middle” cyberattacks, when traffic and messages are intercepted by an unauthorized third party.

The program, known as BBM Protect, will be available to any user with the BBM app on their device, whether they use BlackBerry, Android or Apple products.

“One person just has to start a Protected convo using [the program], and they can invite even non-BBM protected users into the conversation, as long as they have the BBM app on their device,” stated a post at Android Community.

BlackBerry is still the phone that dominates in some congressional offices, federal agencies and major corporations due to its reputation for good security.

BBM, a service well-known to BlackBerry users, is often used to conduct business and exchange messages due to its speed.
