Microsoft announces new cybersecurity tools

Microsoft unveiled a series of products and software updates designed to protect corporate cybersecurity at a time when hackers often launch break-ins using legitimate user credentials.

Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics (ATA) uses a combination of anti-hacking tools to weed out intruders, including log file analysis to register unusual activity and Deep Packet inspection to track the movement of data in real-time.

ATA’s debut follows Microsoft’s purchase of enterprise security firm Aorata in November, according to Ars Technica, which reported the new product. The announcement took place Monday at Microsoft’s Ignite conference in Chicago.

Additionally, users of Microsoft’s other software products will see their cyber capabilities enhanced with forthcoming updates.

The mobile application for Microsoft’s email client, Outlook, will soon support access restrictions and limits on duty, copy, paste and attachment saving in order to limit the exportation of sensitive data.

Users of Azure Rights Management Services will also benefit from Document Tracking, a new service revealing who has opened or used a document since it was sent and allowing senders to revoke access if data falls into the wrong hands.
