French military submarine builder hacked, documents taken
Hackers stole 22,000 pages of documents about military submarines from the French firm DCNS, according Australian reports.
{mosads}The Scorpene, the type of sub targeted in the attack, is being built in India under a $3.5 billion contract with the Indian navy. The Chilean and Malaysian militaries now use the subs, and Brazil has an order for them.
“DCNS has been made aware of articles published in the Australian press related to the leakage of sensitive data about Indian Scorpene. This serious matter is thoroughly investigated by the proper French national authorities for Defense Security,” the company wrote in a press release.
Australia, which announced a contract with DCNS for a different submarine in April, issued a statement saying that documents related to their “Shortfin Barracuda” subs were not accessed in the leak.
