The appointment is a homecoming for Stavridis, as he earned
a Master’s in law and diplomacy and a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School in the
1980s.
{mosads}In addition to the position at Tufts, Stavridis has been
named chairman of the board of the U.S. Naval Institute, an independent naval
think tank, upon his retirement from the Navy.
Stavridis’s successor, Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, was
confirmed by the Senate last month. Breedlove is expected to take over for
Stavridis, who has been at his NATO post since 2009, later this month.
