Jill Kelley adds Panetta, others as lawsuit defendants
Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, outgoing FBI Deputy Director Sean Joyce and the State Department were among those added Friday to the lawsuit Jill Kelley has filed over the disclosure of her name and emails.
{mosads}Kelley is suing the government in a defamation lawsuit after she was revealed as the woman who sparked the FBI investigation that uncovered former CIA Director David Petraeus’s affair and led to his resignation.
The Tampa Tribune reported that Panetta, Joyce, former Pentagon spokesman George Little and two FBI agents were added to the amended lawsuit Kelley and her husband initially filed in June.
Kelley alleges her rights to privacy and dignity were violated through the collection and disclosure of her emails and personal information.
Kelley became ensnared in the Petraeus scandal when she went to federal authorities after receiving threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman Petraeus had an affair with.
The FBI investigation uncovered the Petraeus affair, and it also sparked a separate Pentagon investigation over Kelley’s emails to retired Gen. John Allen. The Pentagon said the two had sent thousands of pages of potentially “inappropriate” emails, but the inspector general investigation cleared Allen of wrongdoing.
