Judge dismisses drone lawsuit

A federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit against Obama administration officials over the drone strikes that killed three U.S. citizens in Yemen in 2011.

U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Columbia Rosemary Collyer said on Friday she granted the administration’s motion to dismiss the case. The judge said the case raises “serious constitutional questions,” according to the Associated Press.

One of the three Americans killed in Yemen was an al Qaeda cleric, the AP noted.

{mosads}Government officials have said Congress and the executive branch should evaluate the United States’ drone strike program abroad instead of courts. 

A majority of all U.S. drone strikes have targeted suspected terrorists in Yemen and Pakistan.

In December, a group of 13 Yemeni civilians were accidentally killed in a U.S. drone strike. Officials thought the group included members of al Qaeda.
