Kerry: Romney ‘irresponsible’ on Iran

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is ripping Mitt Romney as “irresponsible” for his attacks on President Obama’s Iran policy.

Romney is using “empty rhetoric” that’s “as inaccurate as it is aggressive,” Kerry wrote in an op-ed in Thursday’s Washington Post rebutting a Romney op-ed earlier in the week that said Obama was “America’s most feckless president since Carter.”

{mosads}Kerry said Obama is enacting the crippling sanctions Romney is calling for in defending the president. 

The 2004 Democratic presidential candidate followed up by saying that Romney was behaving “like an irresponsible candidate” for attacking Obama.

“The things he laid out in his op-ed, President Obama is already doing,” Kerry said in a Thursday interview on CBS.

Kerry also slammed Romney on
the Senate floor Tuesday for his Iran comments.

Republicans have been critical of Obama for not taking strong enough positions on Iran, which they articulated in speeches Tuesday at
the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference. Romney has
claimed that if Obama is reelected, Iran will obtain a nuclear weapon.

The attacks on Iran come as the GOP looks to win over Jewish
voters who normally vote Democratic by painting Obama as unsupportive of
Israel. Iran’s nuclear program dominated the conversation at the AIPAC conference
this week.

President Obama knocked the GOP field at a press conference
Tuesday, saying that the potential for war “is not a game.” Obama has said he
is not ruling out military options to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons,
but wants to find a diplomatic solution.
