The Pentagon on Sunday identified the Army Green Beret killed a day earlier while fighting in eastern Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Cribben, 33, of Simi Valley, Calif., was killed Saturday “as a result of wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations” in Logar Province, according to a Pentagon statement.

He was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel at the time.

The incident is under investigation, the release adds.

Assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group based at Fort Carson, Colo., Cribben is the second U.S. soldier to die in Logar Province within eight days.

Chief Warrant Officer Jacob Sims was killed Oct. 27 when the helicopter he was flying crashed.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family of our fallen brother,” Gen. John Nicholson, commander of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, said in a statement on Saturday.

“Despite this tragic event, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the Afghan people and to support them in our mutual fight against terrorism.”
