A U.S. military helicopter crashed Thursday in western Iraq near the border with Syria, defense officials said.

The helicopter had seven personnel on board but was not on a combat mission, CNN reported. Rescue teams are being dispatched to the site.

Early reports indicate the HH-60 Black Hawk variant helicopter did not take enemy fire, but it’s still unclear what caused the crash.

Operation Inherent Resolve said in a statement that rescue teams were responding to the scene.

“Further details will be released when available. An investigation will be initiated to determine the cause of the incident,” the statement said.
