Pentagon official resigns after CNN unearths old conspiracy theory posts

A Department of Defense staffer resigned Tuesday after a CNN review of his social media accounts found he shared conspiracy theories about former President Obama. 

Todd Johnson, who joined the Pentagon in 2017 after serving as an aide for the Trump campaign, stepped down after CNN reached out to Defense officials for comment on his past posts.

In 2012, Johnson shared a video that spread the so-called birther theory that Obama was not born in the U.S., as well as a video that claimed Obama was the Antichrist.

{mosads}In 2013, he agreed with friends who made anti-Muslim posts, including one that claimed Obama was himself a Muslim.

Since joining the administration as a Pentagon advance officer, Johnson has traveled overseas with Defense Secretary James Mattis and met with President Trump, CNN reported.

Johnson is the latest Trump administration employee who was found to have previously made inflammatory comments on social media or during radio appearances. Multiple other staffers have either resigned or been placed on leave as a result of their past comments.
