US servicemember killed in apparent insider attack in Afghanistan

One U.S. servicemember was killed and two others were injured in southern Afghanistan on Saturday in an apparent insider attack, NATO’s Resolute Support mission said

The two wounded servicemembers are being treated and are in stable condition, the mission said in a statement. An investigation into the attack is underway.

The identity of the servicemember killed on Saturday is being withheld until 24 hours after the individual’s next of kin is notified.

The apparent insider attack came just over a year after three U.S. soldiers were killed in an attack by an Afghan soldier

Resolute Support did not give details of the attack. But a statement by the Taliban reported by Reuters on Saturday said an Afghan soldier had fired on American troops in southern Afghanistan’s Uruzgan province.

The statement said the attack had killed four people and injured several others, according to Reuters.
